Are these some of your first waking thoughts?

“I have so much to do today I will never get everything done”.

“I feel like I am drinking from a firehose”.

And my personal favorite “I am so busy” the 4 words we wear like a badge of honor.

Do you experience any of these symptoms through the day?

  • Feeling overwhelmed and unable to focus on the task at hand
  • Can’t decide what to do next
  • Small interruptions throw you off track
  • It’s the end of the day and again you feel that you have nothing accomplished

…. then time is running you and you’re right, you will not get everything done……and what’s worst is that tomorrow will be exactly the same as today.

Consider this….

You jump on the treadmill thinking this is going to be a long hour and you start the countdown…every minute ticks down like an eternity.

You grab dinner with your best friend…the waiter is giving you the ‘look’ because an hour has past and you still haven’t ordered…

There is the same amount of time in every hour…. What is different is how we “experience time”

What if?

What if you could hit the ground running every day? You can with these 3 simple solutions…

#1 Dump all the “to do” chatter from your mind onto a list, it doesn’t have to be fancy, a simple piece of paper will do. This will stop the constant distractions and inner conversations when a new “to do” pops into your mind because you can be comforted that it won’t be forgotten.

#2 At the end of EVERY day select 3 tasks from your master to do list and these 3 tasks will become your main focus for tomorrow. I like to call this “Active Self-Management” when you become distracted these 3 tasks allow you to quickly recapture your focus, eliminate overwhelm and more importantly end every day with a sense of accomplishment. This increases your productivity!

#3 Just because you “think it” doesn’t make it true…when the “I am so busy” chatter starts, replace it with “I have all day to get things done, I have lots a time”. Sound hokey? It might but you do have the power to change your thoughts! When you change your thoughts you change how you are experiencing time!

And finally, recognize that being “busy” does not make you more important…at the end of the day getting things done increases your value to yourself and others…and that is what gives you that sense of accomplishment that we all thrive on.
